Lucky fashion from Nyla
March 16, 2008
House of Nyla’s clothes are bright, cheerful, and glamourous, and her use of lime green in many of her designs makes her a perfect choice for a St. Paddy’s Day outfit. METRO Virtual Fashion will have a special float in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in the Dublin sim, and we’re happy to showcase a delightfully festive outfit on our float’s model.
Princess Lime of Hearts is just one colour of many for this adorable outfit, but the green is the perfect shade for catching some of the luck of the Irish. The poofy skirt has hearts sewn with fishnet and sequin, with a corset top. (model: Kyra Nemeth)

As you can see, the skirt’s layering is far from flat and will swing around you as you dance a jig (hopefully without spilling any Guiness.) Nyla’s ability with prims and attention to detail is, of course, similar to her attention to detail with her unique RL fashion label.

The parasol is adorable, with sculpty hearts and beads, and heart shaped lace trimmed panels.
If shamrocks are more your style, Nyla’s got a special release for this time of year. While many special occasion releases are fun yet a little cheesy, Nyla’s St. Patricia gown is stylish enough to wear any time of year. The top is a bit daring, covered in little shamrocks and emerald gems and not a whole lot else… but the skirt is simple, long, and elegant. A winning combination. (model: me)

I was happy to discover the St. Patricia outfit also came with a less formal option: flared pants. These are perfect for dancing the night away in an Irish pub.

The unique and diverse makeup styling of Tete A Pied
January 28, 2008
Skins are a very personal thing, and one can go through hundreds of demos before committing to just one. I find when there’s a skin that looks good on my shape I tend to “collect” makeup options for them. Roslin Petion and CJ Carnot of Tete A Pied create such a great range of makeup options for their Vivant skins, it’s hard to resist stopping at one. Metro Models Ana Lutetia and Moisie Swindlehurst have shown off some of their favourites in this makeup portrait series.

Ana models a natural look with lightly applied liner and nude lips with just a touch of gloss.
skin: TaP Vivant Buff Basic Nude 1
hair: Hiccup Slow Jamz in Burgundy
jewelry: the Dauphine set by Muse
lashes: Sin Skins – Fluff

Moisie is in a cute mod-ish skin with delineated matte eyeshadow and neutral stained lips
skin: TaP Vivant Almond Octobre 1
hair: “Edie” from Aden
earrings: Golddigger by Diamonde
jacket: Ciao by Last Call

The “Chaton” makeup, modelled by Ana, is a gorgeous evening or high fashion look with cat’s eye liner, smokey lids, and frosted pale lips.
skin: TaP Vivant Buff Chaton 3
hair: “Gwen” by ETD
jewelry: Black Pearl set by Paper Couture
lashes: Sin Skins “Fluff”

Tete A Pied has some of the most creative alternative and gothic makeup I’ve seen. Moisie wears a skin inspired by the Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer.
skin: TaP Vivant Gothique Amanda 1
hair: Hiccup “Amelieish”
dress: Mod Dress from Tres Blah

For those who want a truly unique look, the Boutique line of skins has distinctive elements like moles, freckles, etc in a variety of skintones and makeup. Ana’s look is smoked dark blue eyes and glossy lips, while Moisie wears a feminine pink lipstick and blush with lined eyes.
On Ana:
skin: TaP Boutique Strawberry Parfait 6
hair: Philotic Energy “Iseult”
jewelry: Diamonde “Chunky Shapes” necklace
outfit: Dutch Touch – Sparkle Dark
On Moisie:
skin: TaP Boutique Vanilla Parfait 3
jewelry: Boing Fromage – Lady Cameo necklace
shirt: white lace top from <3 cupcakes

Lastly, a totally fun Valentine’s look modelled by Moisie. Cherry red lipstick and a white pencilled heart combine for a truly sweet look.
skin: TaP Vivant Less Than Three 1
hair: “Daisy II” by ETD
The Vivant line is surprisingly affordable, with skins at L$500 each. If you can’t decide between these fashion-forward looks, relax, you can pick up a few without breaking your L$ balance.
*fuse
December 28, 2007
Jonathan Hugo of *fuse designs classic fashion for men and women. It’s a small boutique but already has gathered a lot of attention from virtual fashion lovers for the designs’ clean lines and excellent texturing. I refer to the stuff as primarily “business casual”; it’s a little bit dressy but suitable for a day of shopping as well as at the office.
The Ana button down coat, shown above in “Coco”, featured a sculpty collar and satin lining that shows when you move around. It’s a beautiful coat of the sort I wish I had in First Life this winter season.
The Audrey dress, shown in “Rouge”, is a flirty little party dress with a black underskirting and black ribbon trim.
The “Frida” outfit is my favourite… with its ruffled black skirt, soft floral top and elegant black satin belting, it’s a perfect outfit for wearing as a fashionable model agency director (or perhaps for an aspiring fashion model?)
“The Secretary”, shown in “Blu”, is a bit risqué perhaps for a First Life office job, but while the tiny little skirt shows off your legs to their best advantage, the elegant jacket classes it up. I’d pair this little number with some black pearls, and perhaps some back-seamed stockings, to really make it high fashion.
You can get some *fuse at Alhena (192, 166, 23).
Strike a pose with Animah
November 8, 2007
As a virtual model, you simply need to have poses for your avatar. Whether working with a designer on a shoot, or working the runway, poses are crucial. One problem newer models run into is finding good poses that don’t break your virtual bank. What’s a model to do, when they get tired of the freebie poses?
Animah offers a solution: inexpensive poses that work for a variety of looks. Animah is a project of Annah Whitfield and Myllie Writer, both featured designers at New Shoots. The poses these talented girls offer are casual, expressive, high fashion, seductive, and cute. There really is a lot of variety here, and at L$50 each or L$500 per 12, they’ll let you express yourself for the camera for less.

Alaska’s Picks – New Shoots
September 27, 2007
Here I’ve chosen three outfits from each section for the New Shoots show to give you a taste of what’s to come for the show. It was hard to pick just a handful. I think you’ll be as surprised as I was with the quality of the fashion coming from these new designers. Myllie and Annah were both under 4 months of age when they applied for the New Shoots showcase, but I know we’ll be seeing a lot more of both of them!
ANNAH COUTURE:
Candystripe is the kind of delicious retro dress I’d wear on a first date if I wante d to look sweet.
Gillian comes with a white trim version as well that’s just heavenly. I love the contrast of black on buttercup yellow though.
I normally am not a big fan of babydolls, but this dress is flowing and can either be a cute casual, or by slipping on the matching black lace gloves, a more formal look.
PERSONA:
Misbehaved lingerie is seductively feminine and pretty.
The Mias dress is a perfect fall outfit. Simple and classy. The matching lace shrug is a great touch.
This gown is a real stunner! Named Evening Inspiration, it’s the kind of gown you’d wear if you want to be the star of the evening.
New Shoots will run on Friday, September 28 at 6:00 PM SLT and Saturday, September 29 at 11:00 AM SLT. Hope to see you there!
